Statistics Canada 2009 Revenue Figures Show Decline For Private Radio

STATISTICS CANADA's latest revenue figures for private radio broadcasters show operating revenue down 5.2% in 2009 compared with 2008 to C$1.5 billion, the first year-to-year decline since 1993. Advertising revenue for private stations fell 5.5%;; 97.5% of stations' operating revenue is still generated from advertising revenue. Stations earned C17.9 cents of profits before interest and taxes per dollar of revenue, the lowest since 2002.
Revenue rose only in SASKATCHEWAN (6.7%) and QUEBEC (1.1%) and declined oin all other provinces.
Francophone stations showed an increase of 1.7% in operating revenue, while Anglophone stations fell 6.6% and Ethinc stations dropped 1.1%.
