PECONIC PUBLIC BROADCASTING was given a 72-hour extension to come up with the $637,000 it needs to purchase the license and equipment of noncommercial WLIU/SOUTHAMPTON, LONG ISLAND, NY from LONG ISLAND UNIVERSITY.
The EAST HAMPTON PRESS reports that the deadline was extended until FRIDAY (8/3) at 5p (ET) after an appeal by Rep. TIM BISHOP (D-NY).
PPB has been attempting to raise the money to buy the station to keep it as a locally-programmed public radio station for the HAMPTONS area. It previously received an extension of the deadline for making its payment from JUNE 30th to AUGUST 31st.
