Dick Griffey Passes

ALL ACCESS is saddened to learn of the passing of Urban industry icon DICK GRIFFEY. GRIFFEY passed FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 24th from complications resulting from a recent quadruple bypass surgery.
GRIFFEY will be best remembered as the founder of SOLAR RECORDS in the late '70s. He went on to become one of the preeminent black music pioneers of the 20th Century.
GRIFFEY spent most of the last 10 years of his life in WEST AFRICA, where he was involved in commodities and international trade.
"We walked these last steps with him and held him close," said his wife, CARRIE LUCAS GRIFFEY. "But all who knew him understood he belonged to the world. He acknowledged failures, but rejected defeat. He loved life and people. We celebrate his ‘going home.’"
There will be a private memorial service reserved for the immediate family as well as a public memorial service which is in the process of being organized.
DICK GRIFFEY leaves behind wife, CARRIE LUCAS GRIFFEY, daughters REGINA HUGHES and CAROLYN GRIFFEY, sons, LUCAS GRIFFEY and CHE SCELSA, five grandchildren, CURTIS, DEVIN, PAULA, REGGIE and KENNEDI and adopted son HAILE WILLIAMS.
GRIFFEY was 72.
