CNN news anchor RICK SANCHEZ' comments on comedian PETE DOMINICK's show on SIRIUS XM RADIO's P.O.T.U.S. channel led to SANCHEZ' widely-publicized firing on FRIDAY (10/1).
SANCHEZ' appearance included his charging that "top brass" at CNN told him he was seen less as an anchor and "more as (like reporter JOHN QUINONES)" that this was an example of racism not only from the Right but from "elite, NORTHEAST establishment liberals" who "deep down, when they look at a guy like me, they see a guy automatically who belongs in the second tier, and not the top tier.” He then called COMEDY CENTRAL "THE DAILY SHOW" host JON STEWART a "bigot" (later revising that to "prejudicial... uninformed," and went on to respond to DOMINICK's comment that STEWART, as a Jew, would know what it was like to feel prejudice directed towards him by saying, sarcastically, "very powerless people ... he's SUCH a minority, I mean, you know ... please, what, are you kidding?"
SANCHEZ said that "everybody who runs CNN is a lot like STEWART, and a lot of people who run all the other networks are a lot like STEWART, and to imply that somehow they -- the people in this country who are Jewish -- are an oppressed minority? Yeah." SANCHEZ dismissed the idea that current generations of Jews have been affected by the Holocaust and other prejudice.
SANCHEZ was fired by CNN on FRIDAY. DOMINICK appeared on SATURDAY with a CNN pilot that aired at 2:30p and 10:30p (ET) SATURDAY, featuring radio talker STEPHANIE MILLER, TEA PARTY leader and talk host DAVID WEBB, and former AIR AMERICA RADIO host SAM SEDER.
