MICKEY LUCKOFF's comments about CITADEL MEDIA and CEO FARID SULEMAN in the wake of LUCKOFF's departure from the Pres./GM post at Talk KGO-A/SAN FRANCISCO has finally drawn a response from SULEMAN.
The head of CITADEL told the SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE's BEN FONG-TORRES that "KGO's ratings and revenue have been on decline the past two years. Ratings are down 25 to 30%. It's not one of our top-10 cash-flowing markets. It was time for someone to come and fix the ratings."
SULEMAN also disagreed with LUCKOFF's charge that his ultimate replacement, GSM DIEDRA LIEBERMAN, went over his head to get a new NSM approved, saying, "The process is that local management hires people. The national sales manager resigned; that's not a good thing. (LIEBERMAN) went through the channels internally to get (a hiring) approved. If the sales manager doesn't get a response on a timely basis and calls me, and I am available to make things happen, I will. I don't need to go behind backs."
I don't wish to get into a pissing contest with a skunk!.... His comments carry as much credibility as the value of the stock grants he gave me a couple of weeks ago.
Dismissing LUCKOFF's record of achievement at KGO, SULEMAN said, "A station like KGO has been successful because of a lot of dedicated people. It's just that the person at the lead gets the credit."
LUCKOFF's e-mailed response to SULEMAN's comments was, "I don't wish to get into a pissing contest with a skunk! ... His comments carry as much credibility as the value of the stock grants he gave me a couple of weeks ago."
