MetroPCS Unveils LTE Pricing Plans, Tiered Data Service

METROPCS' pricing for service through its new LTE phones, announced TODAY (1/3) includes tiering that efectively charges extra for heavy data use including streaming, with unlimited data included in a $60 per month plan (with unlimited talk and text). Lower-cost service plans are also being offered by the no-contract pay-as-you-go carrier, the first to offer LTE high speed service, but a $40 plan allows only "4G Web browsing" and unlimited YOUTUBE access, while a $50 plan adds 1 GB of "additional data access," including streaming, plus international texting, turn-by-turn GPS navigation, and other features. The $50 and $60 plans add access to METROPCS' own branded "METROSTUDIO" music and video downloading service.
"Our customers told us they wanted more video, more sharing of their content and more Web browsing capabilities -- they want to have it all with the value and no annual contract that only METROPCS can deliver," said President-CEO-Chairman ROGER D. LINQUIST. "Our 4G LTE network can deliver unlimited voice and mobile broadband data services and, with these new service plans, consumers are in the driver's seat on how much additional data access and real-time entertainment content they want to pay for on a monthly basis."
METROPCS offers LTE service in nine markets and plans to add several more in 2011.
