As ALL ACCESS tipped you last week (NET NEWS 1/13), BARNSTABLE AC WKJI (96.1)/CENTER MORICHES, NY will be flipping to Country, beginning TONIGHT (1/18) at 11:59p (ET). The station will take on new call letters (WJVC), positioning itself as MY COUNTRY 96.1 and launching commercial-free with 10,000 songs in a row.

The station previously ran a simulcast of AC sister WKJY (K-JOY)/HEMPSTEAD and was purchased by JVC BROADCASTING. The sale was finalized TODAY.

LONG ISLAND market veterans PHATHEAD, “PARTY MARTY” MITCHELL and JAY LETTERMAN are the first folks announced as the staff of MY COUNTRY 96.1. PHATHEAD will be PD and morning personality, LETTERMAN will handle the midday shift and MITCHELL will wear APD/MD stripes, as well as hold down the afternoon drive. 

Also joining PHATHEAD in the morning as co-host and traffic reporter will be CANDE ROTH, who was PHATHEAD's morning show partner for seven years at BARNSTABLE sister Hot AC WMJC/LONG ISLAND. Additional air personalities will be announced as part of the lineup soon.

PHATHEAD’s previous stops throughout his 15-year stint in LONG ISLAND include COX Top 40 WBLI, BARNSTABLE BROADCASTING Hot AC WMJC and JVC BROADCASTING Top 40/R WPTY. 

MITCHELL has previously worked for stations like BARNSTABLE/LONG ISLAND’s AC WKJY and sister Oldies WBZO, as well as WYNY/NEW YORK and PRESS COMMUNICATIONS Country WKMK/MONMOUTH-OCEAN, NJ. 

LETTERMAN’s resume includes experience in multiple formats at stations like WRCN/LONG ISLAND, WGBB/MERRICK, WFLY/ALBANY, WMJC/LONG ISLAND and KJOY/LONG ISLAND.

The flip comes with the closing of the sale of the station and Classic Rock WRCN/RIVERHEAD to JVC by BARNSTABLE.  KALIL AND CO. represented BARNSTABLE and RICHARD L. SHARPE represented JVC in the deal.
