NORTHERN KENTUCKY UNIVERSITY (NKU) Triple A WNKU/CINCINNATI-HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KY is celebrating its 25th anniversary year with the announcement TODAY (1/19) of the acquisition of 105.9 FM/910 AM (currently WPFB/MIDDLETOWN, OH) and 104.1 FM (currently WPAY/PORTSMOUTH, OH).
WNKU will now boom throughout the CINCINNATI/NORTHERN KENTUCKY area, north past DAYTON and Southeast to CHARLESTON, WV. This means WNKU’s potential audience will grow by 2.2 million to 3.3 million, ranking it as one of the top five noncommercial, full-time Triple A stations in the country based on potential reach!
"Year after year, the number one complaint we hear is about signal strength and reach," said Station Manager CHUCK MILLER. "It got to the point that we posted reception tips on our website. The bottom line is this expansion is our best hope for the future. It allows us to diversify our revenue stream while expanding our mission and providing a resource for independent music and news to a whole new audience that is currently underserved by mainstream media. We look forward to making new partners in the world of contemporary culture."
"WNKU has become an integral part of the civic and cultural fabric of our region," said NKU President JAMES C. VOTRUBA. "In its 25 years, the station has established itself as an industry leader. Today’s announcement reflects the value we, as an institution, place in this community treasure."
WNKU will begin programming the new stations on FEBRUARY 1st through a management operating agreement while the purchase awaits final approval from the FCC. The station expects to take full ownership of the properties in April or May of this year.
For five of the past 10 years, WNKU has been voted Best Radio Station in CINCINNATI by readers of CityBeat magazine.
