COGECO Closes On Corus Quebec Purchase

COGECO has closed on the purchase of CORUS ENTERTAINMENT's QUEBEC radio holdings. The deal includes French Sports CKAC-A, French Hot AC CKOI, AC CFQR (THE Q 92.5), and French Talk CHMP (FM 98,5)/MONTREAL, French Hot AC CFEL (102.1 CKOI) and French Oldies CFOM (SOUVENIRS GARANTIS)/QUEBEC CITY, French Oldies CKOY (SOUVENIRS GARANTIS) and French Top 40 CHLT/SHERBROOKE, French Oldies CJRC (104.7 SOUVENIRS GARANTIS)/GATINEAU-OTTAWA, French Hot AC CIME/ST. JEROME, and French Oldies CHLN (106.9 SOUVENIRS GARANTIS)/TROIS RIVIERES at a price of about C$80 million.
COGECO is spinning off CKOY and its own French AC CJEC (RYTHME FM) and the newly-acquired CFEL/QUEBEC CITY.
The COGECO DIFFUSION division, which includes the radio stations, has named MONIQUE LACHARITÉ as VP/, Control, Administration and Human Resources; ANDRÉ ST-AMAND as VP/Programming; JEAN-LUC MEILLEUR as VP/Regional Stations and GM of French AC CFGL (105.7 RYTHME FM)/MONTREAL; RÉAL GERMAIN as GM of CHMP, CKAC, and COGECO NEWS; DANIEL DUBOIS as VP/Sales; and FRANÇOIS BIRTZ as GM/Technology, IT and Operations.
And COGECO swapped formats on the SHERBROOKE stations acquired in the CORUS deal, with CKOY dropping its French Top 40 format for French Oldies as SOUVENIRS GARANTIS, while CHLT dropping the SOUVENIRS GARANTIS format and picking up the French Top 40 format as "CKOI ESTRIE."
