FCC Announces Presidential EAS Alert Test
February 3, 2011 at 5:00 PM (PT)
The FCC has announced the first-ever Presidential alert to be aired as a test across the Emergency Alert System nationwide. The alert will test the reliability of the EAS system and how effective it would be in a real national emergency.
All EAS participants will be required to take part and to receive and transmit a live code with a Presidential alert message. The test will be accompanied by a joint promotional campaign by the FCC, FEMA, and the NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE to raise public awareness of the test.
