JONATHAN "SUPER" SQUIBB once again successfully defended his championship at CBS RADIO Sports WIP-A/PHILADELPHIA's WING BOWL 19 FRIDAY morning, edging fellow former WING BOWL champion BILL "EL WINGADOR" SIMMONS in an "eat-off" by one wing, with SQUIBB's record 255 wings defeating EL WINGADOR's 254.
The annual sold-out event at the WELLS FARGO CENTER featured an appearance by star professional eater TAKERU KOBAYASHI, who provided between-round entertainment by downing a cheesesteak in 24.3 seconds. KOBAYSHI, who did not compete in the wing-eating contest this year, said that he will return and will compete in WING BOWL 20 next year.
WIP's signature event was devised by morning co-hosts AL MORGANTI and ANGELO CATALDI as a diversion for SUPER BOWL weekend to fill the void of another EAGLES season without a championship. The contest grew from a hotel ballroom to annually filling the city's basketball/hockey arena, with proceeds going to a police charity.
