Former WAVA Owner Nick Arundel Dies At 83

Condolences to family and friends of former WARL-A/WAVA-A/WASHINGTON owner NICK ARUNDEL, who died TUESDAY (2/8) in THE PLAINS, VA at 83, according to the LOUDOUN TIMES-MIRROR and FAUQUIER TIMES-DEMOCRAT.
ARUNDEL, best known for his founding a chain of weekly local papers in WASHINGTON's NORTHERN VIRGINIA suburbs, began his career as a reporter after serving in the Korean War, working for CBS NEWS and UNITED PRESS INTERNATIONAL. He bought then-WARL and flipped it to an all-News format in 1960 as WAVA before buying or founding several weekly papers in VIRGINIA.
ARUNDEL was honored on the day of his passing by the VIRGINIA General Assembly as "Outstanding Virginian of 2011."
