House GOP Budget Proposal Would Cut Funding For CPB

The new House Republican majority is taking a run at cutting off funding for the CORPORATION FOR PUBLIC BROADCASTING.
In a budget proposal released WEDNESDAY, Rep. HAROLD ROGERS (R-KY), Chairman of the Appropriations Committee, proposed dropping all funding for the CPB as part of deep spending cuts across the board that would cut $35 billion and 60 spending programs from the budget, including cutting the high speed rail proposal unveiled this week by Vice President BIDEN.
The cuts are unlikely to survive the Democratic majority in the Senate or a presidential veto even if they reach the House floor and are approved there. Congress is grappling with a projected record $1.5 trillion deficit this year.
