Pence, Walden Try Again With Bill To Block Fairness Doctrine

Reps. MIKE PENCE (R-IN) and GREG WALDEN (R-OR) are taking another run at getting the Broadcaster Freedom Act, the bill that would prevent the FCC from re-instituting the Fairness Doctrine, passed by Congress. The bill, which has previously been introduced several times, only to stall in committee, was reintroduced THURSDAY (2/10) with 115 original co-sponsors.
"The American people cherish freedom, especially freedom of speech and of the press. Bringing back the Fairness Doctrine would amount to government control over political views expressed on the public airways," said PENCE. "We must pass the Broadcaster Freedom Act and bury the Fairness Doctrine once and for all."
"The Fairness Doctrine represents an assault on the fundamental freedoms included in the First Amendment," said WALDEN. "Called the Fairness Doctrine or a code name like localism, this kind of outdated government regulation of political speech has no place in the modern broadcasting landscape."
