The violence against reporters in the midst of uprisings in the MIDDLE EAST continued WEDNESDAY with the beating of ABC NEWS reporter MIGUEL MARQUEZ by police in MANAMA, BAHRAIN while he was filing a report on ABC NEWS RADIO. MARQUEZ was heard being beaten with billy clubs while yelling "journalist!," then saying that he had "just got beat rather badly by a gang of thugs." MARQUEZ was not seriously hurt, and later tweeted, "Both producer MATT MCGARRY and I are ok. A few scary moments but ok," and, "Dear Govt of BAHRAIN, I'd like my camera back, with the disc inside and please do not copy or view material from it."

MARQUEZ' incident follows several instances of reporters being subjected to violence in EGYPT, the most widely publicized being the sexual assault of CBS NEWS' LARA LOGAN during the celebrations after HOSNI MUBARAK's resignation and CNN's ANDERSON COOPER being punched in an earlier incident.
