The FCC has proposed a $25,000 fine against SPANISH BROADCASTING SYSTEM HOLDING COMPANY for airing two prank calls on Spanish Tropical WZNT (LA ZETA 93)/SAN JUAN on APRIL 13, 2006 that were aired as part of the syndicated "EL VACILON DE LA MANANA" without notifying the victims in advance.
The structure of the prank call segment fell afoul of Commission rules, said the Enforcement Bureau, noting that "it appears that the intent of the 'You Fell for It' segment was to trick or deceive the called party as to the true identity of the caller, so it was designed to conceal the caller’s identity and the fact that the conversation was being, or would be, broadcast." SBS was previously fined for "You Fell For It" segments that aired on Spanish Tropical WSKQ (MEGA 97.9)/NEW YORK and Spanish Tropical WXDJ (EL ZOL)/MIAMI.
