Condolences to family and friends of longtime Canadian radio and TV news anchor DAVE WRIGHT, who died THURSDAY after a battle with cancer at 82, according to CJNI (NEWS 95.7)/HALIFAX.
WRIGHT's career started in 1950 at CHNO-A/SUDBURY, ON, after which he worked at CKBB-A/BARRIE, CHCH-TV/HAMILTON, and the CBC. After consulting radio stations for several years, WRIGHT joined CHUM-A/TORONTO as Sports Director in 1972. He moved to CJCH-A/HALIFAX in 1976, also launching a TV show, "DAVE WRIGHT'S NOTEBOOK," on ATV (now CTV ATLANTIC). The latter show became "LIVE AT FIVE" and led to his moving to then-CBS affiliate WNEV-TV (now NBC affiliate WHDH-TV)/BOSTON, where he won an EMMY for a documentary about his heart attack and bypass.
He returned to ATV and finished his career there, retiring in 1993.
