Several years ago INNER CITY BROADCASTING CORP (ICBC) sold its former Urban AC KSJL (THE TOUCH)/SAN ANTONIO to CLEAR CHANNEL, whIch changed the format to Top 40 KXXM (MIX 96.1). That left a programming void for African-Americans.
Now a local community group has leased the HD-2 channel of TRINITY UNIVERSITY's Jazz station KRTU(91.7) and launched a new station to serve that void. They're calling it KROV, which stands for "Restore Our Voice." The format is currently a mixture of hip-hop, R&B, jazz and gospel.
