'Tapes' Controversy Leads To Exit Of Alabama Sports Host

Host STEVE MOORE has exited GREAT SOUTH WIRELESS Sports WZZN (97.7 THE ZONE)/HUNTSVILLE, AL in the wake of a controversy in which MOORE inaccurately said that tapes proved AUBURN star quarterback CAM NEWTON was present when a "pay-for-play" scheme was discussed.
WAAY-TV/HUNTSVILLE reports that MOORE came on COLE CUBELIC's morning show to address the issue last week and admitted that he had not heard NEWTON's voice on the tape, but that the station continued to receive e-mails from angry AUBURN fans and a group called the "NEVER TO YIELD FOUNDATION" has organized a campaign against the station and its sponsors.
In a statement posted on its website, the station said, "'The tapes' have been a key component of the recent alleged scandals in college football. Contrary to rumor, these tapes will not be played on 97.7 THE ZONE without the tapes being fully authenticated. 97.7 THE ZONE is committed to reporting all legitimate sports news and exploring any evidence related to 'the tapes' to discover the truth- no matter what the truth is. This is a newsworthy sports story, and just like any other newsworthy sports story, we will report information and sports news to our listeners as accurately and unbiased as possible. Our main goal is to report the facts. At 97.7 THE ZONE, the views and opinions expressed by any on-air talent are not necessarily those of the management or owners of the station."
