FCC Seeks Comment On Interim Tower Environmental Impact Rules
March 31, 2011 at 4:26 AM (PT)
The FCC has proposed a set of temporary rules to handle the issue of the impact of communications towers on the environment and migratory birds and is seeking comment on the draft rules and interim procedures.
The rules, in the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau's Dockets 08-61 and 03-187, propose that prior to filing an Antenna Structure Registration application, members of the public would be given an opportunity to comment on the plan. In addition, environmental assessments would have to be filed and considered by the Commission before the ASR application is filed, and environmental assessments addressing the tower's impact on migratory birds will have to be filed for each proposed tower over 450 feet.
Comments will be due 30 days after publication in the Federal Register.
