Lots of folks are laughing with GOOGLE TODAY (4/1), over the launch of their "Gmail Motion" Beta. Check out the fun here. Radio is also embracing the foolery.
At 8:10a this morning, while live on CBS RADIO Top 40 WXRK (92.3 NOW)/NEW YORK's morning show, NICK CANNON abruptly interrupted the discussion about the YANKEES' victory, when he answered his phone on-air. The only thing CANNON said, was, 'Real talk, I gotta go, my wife!' With no other dialogue, CANNON left the radio station. The next time his voice was heard on air was when he was in his vehicle telling his co-host NIKKI HESSE that he was on his way to the airport. HESSE exclaimed with a question, 'We’re having babies?,' followed by 'Rollin’ With NICK CANNON' executive producer, SOUTHERN SARAH LEE shouting, 'Congratulations,' and CANNON answering back with a simple, 'Thank you.'
Before the show was through, NICK CANNON had not only fooled his radio team, but had also fooled MTV NETWORKS, actor MATTHEW MCCONANUGHEY and the Queen of All Media, PEREZ HILTON, who posted the story about MARIAH CAREY in labor on PEREZHILTON.COM. CANNON returned to the radio show interrupting the last talk break, when the prank was revealed to his co-host and the listening audience. Immediately tweets of the prank reached PEREZ HILTON, who was not happy. All audio can be heard now on 923now.com.
PAMAL Top 40/R WAJZ (96.3 JAMZ)/ALBANY, NY and LFM Country KSON/SAN DIEGO pushed the ultimate APRIL FOOLS "hot button" -- cats. Both stations aired spots that directed listeners to the website for "CALLAHAN's Original Feline Cuisine," a "nationwide chain of restaurants that serve dishes prepared with cat meat! J WILL at JAMZ and BROOKS O'BRIEN at KSON aired morning show interviews with "TREY CALLAHAN", the founder of the chain, portrayed by their consultant PAIGE NIENABER. A restaurant serving cat? A pen of cats to choose from for your dinner? A merchandised mascot called "Captain Whiskers"? The expected reaction was not unexpected. The website can be viewed at www.callahansoriginalfelinecuisine.com.
COX Rock WBAB/LONG ISLAND is using TODAY (4/1) to play the "BAB Steal Your ID Contest." The station website is asking listeners for their name, date of birth, e-mail, home phone, social security number and Mother's maiden name. Even funnier is their extra offer on the website, " Plus, when you call in, give us your Bank Routing Number and you’ll be eligible for an exclusive Grand Prize!"
On APRIL 1st 2009, BONNEVILLE Adult Hits WARH (106.5 THE ARCH)/ST. LOUIS gave away "SOMETHING NO ONE HAS EVER WON ... NOTHING." Actually, a "LIFETIME SUPPLY OF NOTHING!" Then on APRIL 1st 2010, 106.5 THE ARCH gave listeners "A CHANCE TO SEE THE BLACK EYED PEAS." And then they proceeded to give away several cans of them! TODAY (4/1), on the heels of giving listeners luxury vacations, thousands in cash, flat-screen TVs, designer purses, pumps, and XBOX KINECTS, 106.5 THE ARCH introduces an "ENTIRE STRESS-FREE DAY" full of prizes listeners would NOT buy for themselves. 106.5 THE ARCH and local community agencies are offering special programming during their regular daily shows, with strategies that can help listeners save time, get healthy and relieve stress.
TALLGRASS BROADCASTING Hot AC KIND/INDEPENDENCE, KS hit the airwaves TODAY (4/1) as the new "MUPPET 94.9". "All Muppets, All the Time." Is this just a joke, or a prelude to a format switch? Rumor has it that SPANKY MCBUTTERPANTS and JEREMY RYAN CREATIVE are behind the curtain.
LEIGHTON Top 40 KNOX (Z94.7)/GRAND FORKS' morning show of EMILY and ERICK, consisting of PD EMILY STEVENS and FM OM JOSHUA FLEMING, starting having fun with helium ... having callers guess how many balloons it would take to float a Z94-7 ice scraper and T-shirts in a box, when ERICK told listeners he took the station's stray cat and put it in the box! FLEMING told ALL ACCESS, "The cat took flight, callers called in from all over town including the UNIVERSITY OF NORTH DAKOTA reporting seeing the 'flying cat.' A local news stations sent a crew to the station after receiving calls! Then at 7:50a the executive director of THE CIRCLE OF FRIENDS HUMANE SOCIETY called in, and we 'let the cat outta the box,' telling the listeners the reason for this gag was to highlight animal cruelty."
ZIMMER Top 40 KTXY (Y107)/COLUMBIA, MO's COSMO & JC In The Morning had their APRIL FOOLS fun by playing the REBECCA BLACK song "FRIDAY" non-stop all morning starting at 6a. The jig was up when the local CORWIN HONDA dealership offered $3,000 to UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI Children"s Hospital to stop the insanity. So after 2 hours and 45 minutes of "Fun, fun, fun, fun," COSMO put MID-MISSOURI out of its misery.
