Reports Say Spero Dedes To Move From Lakers Radio To TV Side

The LOS ANGELES TIMES is reporting that LAKERS radio play-by-play broadcaster SPERO DEDES will move to the team's television side next season, replacing JOEL MEYERS alongside returning longtime color commentator and former LAKER player STU LANTZ. DEDES' move, which follows a LOS ANGELES DAILY NEWS report that MEYERS is being let go after the first round of this season's NBA playoffs, will coincide with the last season of LAKERS telecasts on FOX SPORTS WEST and CBS-owned independent KCAL-TV/LOS ANGELES before the team launches its regional cable networks in partnership with TIME WARNER CABLE.
The LAKERS did not comment on the TIMES report and issued a statement from PR director JOHN BLACK to the DAILY NEWS report that said, "All our announcers' contracts expire at the end of the season. We will respectfully decline commenting on or discussing any possible changes until the conclusion of our season." Both papers speculate that FOX SPORTS WEST pre-game host BILL MACDONALD, who filled in for DEDES alongside analyst and former LAKER MYCHAL THOMPSON, might be a successor to DEDES on the radio side.
LAKERS radio broadcasts air on a network headed by ESPN Sports KSPN-A (710 ESPN)/LOS ANGELES.
