Report: Sex Talk On Podcast Contributed To Firing Of 49ers' Radio Analyst

When the SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS replaced GARY PLUMMER with his former NINERS teammate ERIC DAVIS as analyst on the NINERS' radio network alongside play-by-play voice TED ROBINSON, the team and flagship CUMULUS Sports KNBR-A/SAN FRANCISCO did not specify why PLUMMER was being replaced. But reports in the wake of a story at DEADSPIN on an explicit interview PLUMMER gave to the LADY BRAIN podcast in FEBRUARY indicate that PLUMMER's sexual banter on the podcast was a factor in his dismissal.
DEADSPIN summarized PLUMMER's appearance on the podcast as involving discussion of his penis size, his open marriage, coaches helping players get sex, and teaching his brother how to properly perform oral sex. Following up on DEADSPIN's report, the SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE's gossip columnists PHILIP MATIER and ANDREW ROSS talked to PLUMMER, who said that the sexual comments and his criticism of the NINERS' poor play in recent years led to his dismissal with a year left to go on his contract. PLUMMER added that days after the interview, he asked the hosts of the podcast, which the CHRONICLE reports also aired on KSJO/SAN JOSE, to take the episode down from their website.
PLUMMER told MATIER and ROSS that he did the podcast "as a favor for a friend ... we were BSing. It was LADY BRAIN, and that's what they talk about -- sex. But it's not the sole reason for the firing. They (the NINERS) talked to me four or five times during the year about being too hard on the team, and they needed to fill the stadium. I don't think that's my job as an analyst. My job is to state the facts, and the team was 0-5, and three players had quit and they had fired their offensive coordinator. And fans had a right to know why."
