WFUV Receives More News Awards

FORDHAM UNIVERSITY Triple A WFUV/NEW YORK has been honored with nine accolades from various media organization so far this award season.
The SOCIETY FOR PROFESSIONAL JOURNALISTS named WFUV the recipient of five Region 1 Mark of Excellence Awards. All of the award winners are FORDHAM UNIVERSITY students working for WFUV News. Student journalists won in the categories of: Radio News Reporting (First Place to SARA KUGEL for "Gay Teen Runaways"); Radio Sports Reporting (First Place to BRIAN CLARK for "Its in the Cards: John Skelton's Chance of a Lifetime"); two Radio Features (First Place to KATE MCGEE for "Stickball Days" and Second Place to ANNMARIE HORDERN for "Shark Tank Wedding")’ and Best All-Around Radio Newscast (Second Place to LAUREN NAYMIE, KATIE MOORE & JOHN ROGAN).
Further The ALLIANCE FOR WOMEN IN MEDIA FOUNDATION recently honored WFUV student journalist MARY WILSON with a Gracie Award for her work on WFUV public affairs program "Fordham Conversations," while SARA KUGEL received the Outstanding Hard News Feature award for "Gay Teen Runaways."
PUBLIC RADIO NEWS DIRECTORS INC. also announced that student employee JOHN ROGAN had won the award for Best Newscast and SARA KUGEL had won an award for NYC Parade Politics.
"WFUV's young reporters work tirelessly to keep our listeners informed of what's happening in their neighborhoods and around the globe." said WFUV News Dir. GEORGE BODARKY. "We never report with awards in mind, but it's nice when our efforts are recognized. It's also nice to see the training we provide to aspiring young journalists pay off in such a way."
