AP, Union Reach Tentative Deal

The ASSOCIATED PRESS and the NEWS MEDIA GUILD have reached a tentative agreement on a new labor agreement. The 33-month deal is pending a ratification vote by the union's rank-and-file.
Among the provisions are three 1.5% wage increases (at ratification, on SEPTEMBER 1st, and on SEPTEMBER 1st, 2012); a freeze in the existing pension plan as of JULY 1st and changes in employer contribution rates after that, including shifting AP's 401(k) contributions to a different plan; a freeze in medical rates; and several other provisions regarding job security, vacation, and training.
