JIM MANDICH, who became a fixture in SOUTH FLORIDA sports first as a tight end for the MIAMI DOLPHINS and then as a broadcaster, died TUESDAY (4/26) after a battle with bile duct cancer at 62.
MANDICH was drafted by the DOLPHINS out of MICHIGAN in 1970 and played for the undefeated 1972 squad; he finished his career with the PITTSBURGH STEELERS in 1978. He was the color commentator for DOLPHINS radio broadcasts in 1992-2004 and 2007-2010, and worked at then-COX RADIO Talk WIOD-A in 1983-1997 and at BEASLEY Sports WQAM-A/MIAMI from 1997 until his cancer diagnosis in FEBRUARY of 2010.
