Veteran radio personality NICOLE SANDLER was arrested at a town hall meeting in FORT LAUDERDALE on TUESDAY night after she interrupted Rep. ALLEN WEST (R-FL) from the audience about his stance on Rep. PAUL RYAN's (R-WI) Medicare proposal.
The PALM BEACH POST reports that SANDLER, the former AIR AMERICA RADIO and WINZ-A/MIAMI host who hosts a show at radioornot.com and is a frequent fill-in for PREMIERE RADIO NETWORKS' RANDI RHODES, shouted at WEST while he responded to a written question on Medicare, telling the Congressman, "This is supposed to be a town hall meeting. That means back-and-forth." The POST reports that SANDLER was arrested for "trespassing after warning" after a police officer told her to leave the building and she objected to his touching her. The SOUTH FLORIDA SUN-SENTINEL reported that SANDLER "emphatically" cursed at the officer before the arrest. As she was being led away, video posted by the SUN-SENTINEL shows SANDLER saying that she thought the meeting was supposed to include back-and-forth discussion and that WEST hadn't answered the question he was asked.
WEST's detractors criticized the format of the meeting, with the Congressman answering questions submitted on index cards rather than taking questions from the audience; WEST said that the format was in response to previous town halls, at which, WEST said, "a lot of folks want to come up and proseletize for six or seven minutes and you're really not getting to the questions that people want to have answered."
