FCC Proposes $10,000 Fine For Tower Light Outage At KNX/Los Angeles
April 27, 2011 at 11:20 AM (PT)
The FCC is proposing a $10,000 fine against CBS COMMUNICATIONS SERVICES for tower lighting violations at the TORRANCE, CA tower of CBS RADIO News KNX-A/LOS ANGELES.
An agent noticed that the top beacon of the tower, at 190th and Prairie in north TORRANCE, was not lit at about 11:20p (PT) on MAY 13, 2010. The next day, another agent contacted the FAA and found that an outage report had not been filed. The station did not file a notice to airmen until MAY 18th and an engineer from CBS told the Commission on MAY 20th that the person monitoring light outages "apparently did not notice every outage evident in the system."
