UNIVISION RADIO FLORIDA has sued the MICCOSUKEE TRIBE OF INDIANS OF FLORIDA, MICCOSUKEE RESORT AND GAMING, INC., and several John Does for a mishap that took one of the towers of Spanish Talk WQBA-A/MIAMI down.
The suit, filed APRIL 21st in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of FLORIDA, MIAMI Division, alleges that on APRIL 22, 2007, someone was clearing trees on the tribe's property and encroached on the WQBA site, and while clearing that land without permission, pulled out guy wires that held the tower in place, toppling and destroying the tower.
The tribe has, according to UNIVISION, admitted liability and has paid "in excess of $60,000" for the damages but has not made complete restitution. The station's towers are adjacent to the MICCOSUKEE RESORT casino.
