The long-delayed sale of noncommercial Jazz-News-Talk WDUQ/PITTSBURGH from DUQUESNE UNIVERSITY to ESSENTIAL PUBLIC MEDIA, a partnership of crosstown noncommercial WYEP and PUBLIC MEDIA CAPITAL, got a boost with a $1.5 million grant from the RICHARD KING MELLON FOUNDATION TUESDAY (5/4). The PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE-REVIEW reports that the grant, the first towards the $6 million deal, will support jazz programming on the station.
ESSENTIAL PUBLIC MEDIA and WYEP Chairman MARCO CARDAMONE told the TRIB that the license transfer paperwork will "soon" be filed with the FCC. The PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE reported MONDAY that the paperwork has been signed, but the deal has yet to be filed with the Commission.
