Hot 97/New York Petitions For District 97 Declaration For Summer Jam

EMMIS Top 40/Rhythmic WQHT (HOT 97)/NEW YORK is petitioning to have THE NEW MEADOWLANDS STADIUM officially declared DISTRICT 97 on SUNDAY, JUNE 5th and annually for HOT 97's SUMMER JAM. HOT is looking to get 50,000 signatures to make it happen.

HOT 97’S SUMMER JAM is the world’s official annual gathering of Hip-Hop culture where music artists, dancers, DJs and fans gather to celebrate the music culture that changed the world. The U.S. Government considers a district to be a locality marked by a distinguished feature and since HOT 97 has been ushering thousands and thousands of people to THE NEW MEADOWLANDS STADIUM year after year. HOT 97’S SUMMER JAM would only be appropriate to be declared DISTRICT 97, Hip-Hop’s 1st Official District.

In a press release supporting the petition drive, HOT 97 SUMMER JAM artist LIL WAYNE commented, "HOT 97’s SUMMER JAM is different from any other concert, to me it’s the HIP-HOP WOODSTOCK. The electricity from the crowd is different, there’s so many people out there."

HOT 97 SUMMER JAM artist DRAKE added, "One of the greatest events of the year is HOT 97’s SUMMER JAM. When I was performing there, it was probably like one of the most overwhelming experiences of my life, but I can’t wait to come back and kill it."
