Country legend GEORGE JONES surprised his good friend, BNA RECORDS artist KENNY CHESNEY, onstage at a CHESNEY concert in LEXINGTON, KY on SATURDAY night (5/14).
After KENNY was already onstage, GEORGE’s bus rolled into the backstage parking area, and halfway into the show, just before an acoustic part of the set, JONES walked across the stage and stunned KENNY CHESNEY. At that point the band rolled into “I Don’t Need Your Rocking Chair,” so everyone was in on the surprise except CHESNEY. The two also performed the GEORGE classic, “He Stopped Loving Her Today.”
“There's nothing like sharing the stage with your heroes and when GEORGE walked on stage in LEXINGTON it was one of the biggest thrills of my life,” said KENNY. “He means so much to so many and it meant the world to me that he came to the show.”
CHESNEY and JONES have had a friendship for years. JONES joined CHESNEY on the album “Hemmingway’s Whiskey,” and the BOBBY BRADDOCK song that JONES did previously called “Small Y’All.”
