Former Harte-Hanks Vice Chairman Edward H. Harte Dies

EDWARD H. HARTE, the former Vice Chairman of TEXAS-based media company HARTE-HANKS NEWSPAPERS, has died, reports the NEW YORK TIMES. HARTE, who also served as Publisher of the CORPUS CHRISTI CALLER-TIMES until his 1987 retirement, was 88 and passed away MAY 18th in SCARBOROUGH, ME of natural causes. He was known for his activity on behalf of preserving open space and shoreline in TEXAS.
Best known as a newspaper and television company which owned the SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS, CORPUS CHRISTI CALLER-TIMES, and other papers as well as TV stations like KENS-TV/SAN ANTONIO, WFMY-TV/GREENSBORO, WTLV-TV/JACKSONVILLE, KYTV (TV)/SPRINGFIELD, MO, and others, owned KENS-A/SAN ANTONIO and the former SOUTHERN BROADCASTING radio stations, selling most of its assets in the 1980s and retaining its direct-mail and weekly shopper newspapers.
