AMAZON.COM will offer a repeat of MONDAY's (5/23) $0.99 LADY GAGA "Born This Way" MP3 album, which proved so popular, it crashed servers.
"Clearly customers are really excited for LADY GAGA's new album -- we saw extraordinary response to MONDAY's promotion -- far above what we expected -- she definitely melted some servers," said AMAZON Dir./Music CRAIG PAPE. "So we're doing it again, and this time we're ready. We’re pleased to offer 'Born This Way' -- the whole album -- for $0.99 TODAY only. Along with this purchase, customers get 20 GB of free AMAZON Cloud Drive storage so they can store and play their music anywhere. If you missed it the first time, don't miss it TODAY."
Big First Week Sales
THE LOS ANGELES TIMES reports, "promotions around LADY GAGA's "Born This Way" -- including AMAZON's controversial decision to sell digital copies of the album for just 99 cents on MONDAY and BEST BUY's giveaway of the album with a smart phone -- have both pumped sales expectations."
"With shipments reaching 2.1 million units and strong digital sales expected -- boosted by the AMAZON promotion, despite its technological challenges -- sources say UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP is officially projecting first-week sales in the range of 800-850,000 units, and less-official projections are even higher," writes THE TIMES.
