AUDIO GRAPHICS, in cooperation with BORRELL ASSOCIATES, has released its 53rd survey of Internet radio listeners and proclaimed, "Tighten your seat belt because this survey shows how much things are changing for the terrestrial radio industry."
The survey found listening being done using hand held devices is on the increase, and noted "you may call them cell phones, smartphones, or tablets (like iPADS). Most refer to it as 'mobile' listening, and we've shown its growth at AG's RadioRow many times."
Listening is up in all demos surveyed, with 18-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-49 and 50-54 all increasing since 2009. In a side-by-side comparison of 18-54 respondents, the survey found an increase from 22% listening to Internet radio in 2009, to 39.35% today -- and many of those listeners said they've made purchases based on that listening.
