Vince Gill Plays Duane Allman's 1957 Les Paul

MCA artist VINCE GILL, well renowned for his own guitar virtuosity, got to play a guitar that was owned by one of the "Guitar Gods" when GILL was in MACON, GA for a benefit show. The concert, to benefit the ALZHEIMER’s ASSOC. of GEORGIA, was held on MAY 5th, and the guitar that GILL got to play was originally owned by the late DUANE ALLMAN.
“I have chills running down my spine,” said GILL as he showed off the instrument to the crowd. “This was the guitar that DUANE ALLMAN played with the ALLMAN BROTHERS.” GILL used the instrument during some extended solos, like his own “Pretty Little Adrianna.”
The guitar is a 1957 vintage LES PAUL GOLD TOP STANDARD, and the same guitar that ALLMAN used when he recorded “Layla” with ERIC CLAPTON on the 1970 DEREK & THE DOMINOES album, “Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs.” This is the first time the guitar was played in MACON, the home of the ALLMAN BROS., since DUANE died in a motorcycle accident.
