CUMULUS Alternative WWWQ-HD2 (99X)/ATLANTA moves up the dial from 97.9 FM to 99.1 FM reinforcing the 99X brand. The station had been "99X NOW AT 97.9 FM" since returning to FM airwaves on the RIVERDALE translator signal in APRIL 2009.
Sister Top 40/Mainstream WWWQ (Q100) shifted to 99X's original signal at 99.7 in 2008 switching frequencies with Rocker WNNX (ROCK 100.5).
No word yet on a new format for 97.9. ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION's RODNEY HO reports that CUMULUS SVP GARY LEWIS said, "The station will simulcast on 97.9 and 99.1 for now. What CUMULUS will do with 97.9 is currently "undetermined."
99X PD/Morning Drive personality AXEL LOWE had this to say, "It's an exciting change for the station! 99.1 makes it feel like the return of 99X is complete."
