Another broadcaster appears to be out of the running to buy a MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL franchise, as the DICKEY family, heads of CUMULUS MEDIA, has apparently lost out on the bidding to buy the ATLANTA BRAVES.
LEW DICKEY JR. told the ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION that rival bidder LIBERTY MEDIA's victory in the BRAVES bidding is a "fait accompli" but that if LIBERTY falters, the DICKEYS might be among the bidders to take the team.
EMMIS' JEFF SMULYAN's bid for the WASHINGTON NATIONALS fell short with the sale of the team to developer TED LERNER on WEDNESDAY.
