REUTERS is reporting that DAVE SMITH, who was recently announced as the new midday host at ALPHA BROADCASTING Sports KXTG-A (750 THE GAME)/PORTLAND (NET NEWS 6/27), has sued his former employer, the LOS ANGELES ANGELS OF ANAHEIM, owner of Sports KLAA-A (AM 830)/ORANGE-LOS ANGELES, alleging that he was fired for racial reasons.
SMITH's lawsuit, filed earlier this month, alleged that the station blocked another employee from the air for sounding "too black" and "too ghetto," that the team's ANGELS BASEBALL FOUNDATION rigged a singles promotion so that a black woman would not win, and that other team employees made racist remarks. He also alleged that co-workers said that negative results were to be "expected when a Jew is hired as baseball's commissioner."
ANGELS VP of Communications TIM MEAD responded that the team "vehemently disagreed with DAVID's allegations."
