Adult Hits WPOI/Tampa Goes Top 40

COX has spun the format wheel and launched a new Top 40 as of 11a TODAY, replacing Adult Hits WPOI (THE POINT)/TAMPA with the moniker "HOT 101.5, ALL THE HITS." And, HOT 101.5 debuts commercial free playing 10,000 songs in a row.
HOT 101.5 invited the market to check out the launch in a multi-media showcase with a video that takes a big jab at crosstown CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 WFLZ.
The virtual media launch was simultaneously broadcast live on 101.5 FM and as well as a live stream with a synchronized video on the web. HOT 101.5 will be keying on core artists and their hits by LADY GAGA, BRUNO MARS, RIHANNA, THE BLACK EYED PEAS, and much more.
"TAMPA BAY loves this type of music. Now, this massive audience has a station that plays more of it than any other station in town," said CMG VP/Market Mgr. KEITH LAWLESS. "The new HOT 101.5 will be the station women 18-34 years of age can count on for the hottest hits."
COX Dir./Top 40 Programming and WBLI/LONG ISLAND PD JEREMY RICE, consultant STEVE SMITH, WAPE/JACKSONVILLE PD TIM CLARKE and WSUN PD SHARK were all involved in the launch.
RICE told ALL ACCESS, "We're excited to sign on this awesome Top 40/Mainstream in the great TAMPA BAY-ST. PETERSBURG-CLEARWATER market. HOT 101.5 will reflect the lifestyle and tastes of 18-34 females. As we noted in our launch, we've seen weaknesses in WFLZ and are prepared to exploit them -- too much talk and too many commercials. So we're addressing them with 10,000 songs in a row and going commercial-free. We'll evolve from there and continue to deliver on the expectations of what our core wants to hear."
