Some sad news. According to TMZ, SKY NEWS and other sources, troubled singer AMY WINEHOUSE, age 27, was found dead in her LONDON apartment in CAMDEN SQUARE NW (7/23) at 16:05hrs. Police officers pronounced her dead on the scene. No explanation of circumstances surrounding WINEHOUSE's death are available at this time.
SCOTLAND YARD has told the press that there is no suspicion of foul play, and that an autopsy is set for tomorrow (7/24).
UNIVERSAL released a statement of tribute to WINEHOUSE: "We are deeply saddened at the sudden loss of such a gifted musician, artist and performer. Our prayers go out to AMY's family, friends and fans at this difficult time."
WINEHOUSE, a 5-time GRAMMY winner in 2008, who recorded for UNIVERSAL REPUBLIC in the US, had a history of drug and alcohol issues, and had recently canceled a EUROPEAN tour following a performance in SERBIA where she was clearly under the influence while on stage.
She sadly joins a group of other big name musicians, known as members of the 27 CLUB, who passed at age 27. This group includes such notables at ROLLING STONES' guitarist BRIAN JONES, JIMI HENDRIX, JANIS JOPLIN, JIM MORRISON and KURT COBAIN.
