Bubba, Orlando Get Personal In War Of Words Over Anthony Tribute

A morning show war in TAMPA veered into personal territory, as CBS RADIO Top 40/Rhythmic WLLD (WILD) PD/mornings ORLANDO and syndicated personality BUBBA THE LOVE SPONGE, who's heard on COX Classic Rock WHPT, lobbed verbal bombs at each other over a homemade Country hit, reports TAMPABAY.COM.
The genesis for this brouhaha is a CASEY ANTHONY tribute song, "She's Going Places," written by CBS RADIO sister Country WQYK/TAMPA morning co-host CLETUS T. JUDD and RASCAL FLATTS' GARY LEVOX, which has garnered 520,00 YOUTUBE views, with audio versions of the song being sold on iTUNES and AMAZON -- the proceeds going to a children's safety charity, PROTECT.ORG.
BUBBA first went on-air and criticized the song as a "transparent attempt to earn ratings and attention" off the ANTHONY trial; ORLANDO reportedly first responded in an e-mail before taking the matter public.
"You do everything for attention ... you're a hack," ORLANDO scolded BUBBA on-air, adding that his complaints are a way to salvage a "fading broadcast career." "You have ratings, but you're at the end of your run. You're a broke-down HOWARD STERN."
BUBBA responded by calling PROTECT.ORG a "questionable charity," citing tax returns that purportedly show a large percentage of donations used to fund staff salaries. As far as ORLANDO's attack on his popularity, "First of all, you're a liar," BUBBA said. "Play the song on your air and let your listeners decide how ... cheesy it is."
Expect this acrimony to flare up even more after JUDD appears on HLN's NANCY GRACE show to talk abut the spat (GRACE is a major sponsor of PROTECT.ORG). You can hear the verbal spat between BUBBA and ORLANDO here.
