Comment Dates Set For FCC Proposed Translator Application Policy Changes
August 2, 2011 at 4:00 AM (PT)
The FCC's proposal on Low Power FM and translator application policy changes has been published in the Federal Register, triggering the comment period for the docket. Comments are now due on AUGUST 29th, with replies due SEPTEMBER 12th.
The Third Further Notice of Proposed Rule Making would lift the translator application freeze (instituted in 2007) in smaller markets but would lead to the dismissal of pending translator applications in markets with limited available space for new LPFM stations. The Commission also is asking for comment on, among other things, opening an LPFM application window no later than SUMMER 2012, adding rules that would reserve more spectrum for LPFM over translators, and restricting trafficking of translator construction permits.
