iBiquity Disputes Report That Radio Shack Is Exiting The HD Radio Business

THE LOS ANGELES DAILY NEWS notes, "RADIO SHACK has every one of its house-brand HD RADIO units on clearance, if they are still in stock."
The paper concludes from the sales that, "this means RADIO SHACK is essentially out of the HD RADIO business. A shame, since THE SHACK was one of the early supporters."
But does the article jump to the wrong conclusion? iBIQUITY's STEVE BALDACCI thinks so. He told ALL ACCESS, "Products that are end of life go on clearance all the time -- in RADIO SHACK as well as other retailers. We have a long and positive history of developing unique HD RADIO enabled products with RADIO SHACK and with other brands that sell nicely in RADIO SHACK stores. While admittedly, as RADIO SHACK has been in flux organizationally, we have experienced a bit of a delay in 'next gen' models, we are optimistic that a number of HD RADIO Technology products currently in development will have a strong future in RADIO SHACK stores."
