Nationwide Radio Scam Feared

PORTLAND RADIO GROUP, the parent company of Country WPOR/PORTLAND, ME , is warning local businesses that they may be the target of a scam involving one of its radio stations. At least one local business has been contacted this week by someone representing themselves as a salesperson for WPOR, selling advertising packages, a portion of which they claim will go to charity.
The scammers are asking for someone's credit card number to complete the sale.
Pres./GM CARY PAHIGIAN said, "This cuts right to the heart of our reputation in the business community. How many businesses THINK it is us calling and simply say 'no, thanks' and then assume that radio is sold in a sleazy over the phone manner. We were initially tipped off from a local business who is not a client, but is aware of our solid reputation and figured out quickly something did not smell right. Our staff is on high alert for any calls or inquiries from area businesses."
PAHIGIAN notes if your business gets a call like this, don't fall for it -- the scam appears to be part of a nationwide operation.
