Memorial Service Held At Indiana State Fair Today

YESTERDAY (NET NEWS 8/14), ALL ACCESS reported on the tragedy that took the lives of 5 people and injured 45 others, waiting to see SUGARLAND at the INDIANA STATE FAIR SATURDAY night (8/13) when a stage collapsed and lighting and sound equipment came crashing down during a sudden wind storm.
TODAY (8/15), the fair reopened with a public memorial service for five people killed. The MARION COUNTY, IN coroner identified victims as, TAMMY VANDAM, 42, of WANATAH, IN, GLENN GOODRICH, 49, of INDIANAPOLIS, ALINA BIGJOHNY, 23, of FORT WAYNE, CHRISTINA SANTIAGO, 29, of CHICAGO and NATHAN BYRD, 51, of INDIANAPOLIS.
"We're all very much in mourning of the loss of the victims, and we are praying with their families," INDIANA STATE FAIR Exec. Dir. CINDY HOYE said.
SUGARLAND and SARA BAREILLES have cancelled their next scheduled performance at the IOWA STATE FAIR.
SUGARLAND's JENNIFER NETTLES posted on the band's website, "there are no words to process a moment of this magnitude and gravity. There are only prayers for peace in the hearts of the bereft, and prayers of thanksgiving for those who were spared or safe. A piece of our heart is left in that grandstand."
Upcoming concerts at the fair will scheduled at the fair will be relocated to another venue as state officials continue the investigation into the tragedy. INDIANAPOLIS TV station WTHR is reporting that the fair will not present any additional concerts at the outdoor grandstand area. New venue options discussed include CONSECO FIELDHOUSE, THE VERIZON WIRELESS MUSIC CENTER and THE LAWN AT WHITE RIVER STATE PARK. JANET JACKSON is scheduled to play on WEDNESDAY (8/17), followed by TRAIN and MAROON 5 on THURSDAY (8/18). LADY ANTEBELLUM and BRETT ELDREDGE will perform on FRIDAY (8/19).
