Former N.Y. Times 'Ethicist' Randy Cohen Turns To Kickstarter To Launch Podcast

Former NEW YORK TIMES SUNDAY MAGAZINE "THE ETHICIST" columnist RANDY COHEN's "A QUESTION OF ETHICS" radio show was announced by PAUL WOODHULL's MEDIA SYNDICATION SERVICES for launch this year, but the show is taking an unusual route to the air: The show will start as a podcast financed through donations solicited through KICKSTARTER.
COHEN wrote "The Ethicist" for the TIMES for 12 years before exiting on FEBRUARY 27th; the podcast will start as a ten minute, weekly show for 13 weeks. KICKSTARTER donors will receive a variety of premiums, including autographed copies of COHEN's latest book, the opportunity to be the announcer on a podcast episode, and a personal "barroom ethical consultation" with COHEN.
"In the column, I answered reader email," COHEN says. "May I smuggle my own food into the movies? Must I tell my best friend her husband is having an affair? Should I spend $3,000 on medical care for my cat? In the podcast, I'll respond to listener phone calls about the everyday ethics questions that bedevil us all. Those calls will be the heart of the podcast, but I'll also look at events of the day from an ethical perspective -- marriage equality, climate change, our nation's bountiful supply of sex scandals -- bringing in savvy guests to discuss them."
"RANDY is a terrific talent who has developed an incredible following during his tenure as 'The Ethicist,'" said WOODHULL. "RANDY's community is very passionate about him and about ethics in general. We see this as a grassroots opportunity for them to support a project from idea to action!"
