The AP reports that Colombian-American singer SORAYA died today (5/9) at the age of 37. The singer, who died in a MIAMI hospital following a battle with breast cancer, was well-known for integrating cumbia and flamenco music with her own style of pop/rock.
In a letter posted on her website TUESDAY (5/9), SORAYA wrote, "I have not lost this battle because I know the fight was not in vane. Instead, it will help end a larger battle which is early detection to prevention of this terrible disease."
SORAYA's mother, grandmother, and aunt all died from breast cancer, which led to the singer becoming very vocal about informing Hispanic women about the dangers of the disease.
"Her honesty, and dedication along with her incredible drive for life and her ability to concentrate on what really matters has truly changed my life forever," JOYCE FLEMING, SORAYA's manager said in a statement. "We appreciate the opportunity to have learned from her wisdom and allowed it to enrich our lives."
