With more consumer choices than ever before, KNOWDIGITAL surveyed "streamers," those consumers on the cutting edge of listening to Internet radio in cars. The survey was unveiled in a recent webinar that talked about challenges and opportunities ahead regarding in-car streaming.
KNOWDIGITAL interviewed people in several age groups about Internet streaming in cars. To no one's surprise, "people already are listening to Internet streams from broadcast radio in the car; and they will pay for a better solution than plugging in their cellphone to accomplish that."
Some of the webinar highlights:
* "Streamers" are people who listened to a traditional radio stream in their car at least five minutes a week.
* 71% of streamers interviewed are already listening in the car, most using their cellphone plugged into the dash.
* Many streamers currently listening through their smartphones said they would pay upwards of $200 or less for an in-dash solution, even an aftermarket product.
* 90% of those interviewed said they still listen to radio, especially for content they perceive as unique, like morning shows or news, traffic and weather information.
KNOWDIGITAL Chief SAM MILKMAN said HD RADIO was not mentioned by those surveyed. Satellite radio was mentioned only by a few.
