-
After a short recess, we return with the remainder of our data-mining expedition into the NIELSEN AUDIO claims. As always, the Ratings Experts at RESEARCH DIRECTOR, INC. divine the secret meanings behind the numbers in the largest markets in the USA. Often, what we see in the numbers may have something to do with local conditions that we may be unaware of – though we do our best to keep track of trends and changes. If you ever beg to disagree with our assessments, feel free to reach out to us directly (don’t blame All Access, this is all on us …). Our contact info is available at the end of the article.
For record-keeping purposes, the MARCH survey began on FEBRUARY 27th and ended on MARCH 26th. Here’s how it looked:
HOUSTON-GALVESTON: Than-Q Very Much
Though it is a relatively small sample size – three months – the order of the known universe has been turned on its ear in this market. Book after book, year after year, we penciled in RADIO ONE Top 40/R KBXX (THE BOX) as the far-and-away market leader. For the first time in memory, COX RADIO Country KKBQ (93Q) assumed the top spot with its best book in over a year (6.8-7.0). This ended a four-book run at the top for CCM+E AC KODA (SUNNY), which settled in at #2 with its lowest total since SEPTEMBER (7.2-6.5). If you’re keeping track (and we are), that would be five straight surveys without THE BOX at #1. True, two of those books were heavily laced with nutmeg but this is shaping up to be a sea change of epic proportions. RADIO ONE Urban AC KMJQ (MAJIC) remained at #3, though its ratings slipped a bit (6.0-5.7). That opened up a window of opportunity for COX RADIO Classic Hits KGLK (THE EAGLE), which moved up into a tie at #3 (from #6) with what was easily its best performance in over a year (5.1-5.7). And what of our erstwhile market leader? THE BOX slipped another notch – to #5 – with its lowest total in over a year (5.4-5.0). This is three full shares lighter than what it posted a year ago. UNIVISION Regional Mexican KLTN (ESTEREO LATINO) remained tied with THE BOX (5.4-5.0). The agent of change for much of this ratings turmoil is CCM+E Urban KQBT (THE BEAT), which debuted on 12/31. This time the station was up slightly (3.5-3.6) to remain at #12.
For the third consecutive survey, KKBQ was the #1 25-54 station. Even though its shares were off slightly, it maintained more than a share ahead of the two stations that remained tied at #2 for the second book in a row. KODA and KLTN were both off slightly. KGLK picked up a nice chunk of share to move forward one square to #4 while CCM+E Alternative KTBZ (THE BUZZ) slipped back a spot to #5 while duplicating the previous month’s share. KBXX ended a four-book slide and inched up from #7 to #6.
One of the real battle grounds over the last few months has been 18-34. This has been a demo where KBXX dominated – often by as much as six shares or more. The station was still #1, but for the first time in over a year, did not post a double-digit share. KKBQ remained at #2, though by posting its best number in over a year, it came thiiiiis close to unseating THE BOX. KQBT moved up a spot to #3 with a solid increase while KLTN dropped back a space to #4 with a small ratings decline. KTBZ remained at #5 despite scoring its highest number since NOVEMBER. Keep an eye on CBS RADIO Spanish Contemporary KLOL, which ended a three-book skid to move up six spots to #6.
This is the third straight book that KKBQ has had the exact same 18-49 share. We’re sure the station doesn’t mind being flat as it is also the third straight #1 book for the station. KLTN remained at #2 despite dumping some share. KBXX also lost some share but it was able to move up a spot to share the #2 position. KODA remained at #4 despite a loss of share while KTBZ was flat to hold on at #5.
WASHINGTON, DC: Gridlock Inside The Beltway
No, the headline is not a political statement, it is one of the reasons HUBBARD News WTOP was #1 for the third straight book (9.0-8.9). But that gridlock extends beyond the infamous Beltway and includes wintry mixes – which always freak out people in this area (we know, we’re here). The rest of the top five also remained unchanged from last survey. CCM+E Top 40/M WIHT (HOT) was still #2 even though it had its best book in over a year (7.0-7.2). At #3, AMERICAN UNIVERSITY N/T WAMU continued to be one of the strongest non-commercial stations in the country (6.9-7.1). HOWARD UNIVERSITY Urban AC WHUR – a commercial station despite what its affiliation may imply – held firm at #4 (5.9-6.0), widening its lead over one of its chief rivals – RADIO ONE Urban AC WMMJ (MAJIC) – which remained at #5 (5.6-5.0).
To say that WIHT was hot 25-54 would not only be a bad play on words – it would be incredibly accurate. The station secured its highest share in over a year to remain on top for the second book in a row. WTOP was up slightly to remain a solid #2 while WHUR was totally horizontal to remain at #3. WAMU bounced back from a down FEBRUARY and moved up two spots to #4. CCM+E Alternative WWDC (DC 101) had its highest share since OCTOBER and moved from #9 to #5 (there’s a Dolly Parton joke in there somewhere). Its older cluster brother – CCM+E Classic Hits WBIG – followed its best book in over a year with something a little less robust and dropped two places to #6. WMMJ had its smallest share in over a year and that caused the station to move back two squares to a tie at #7.
Once again, WIHT dominated the 18-34 arena and, even though it was down slightly, it maintained a five-plus share lead on the current challenger – RADIO ONE Urban WKYS (KISS), which bounced back from a couple of low (for them) books. Under the heading of “what a difference a year makes,” last year both stations had double-digit shares with WKYS in the lead. Dropping back a spot to #3 was CBS RADIO Top 40/R WPGC, which had its lowest share in over a year. WWDC had its best book since OCTOBER to move up a spot to #4, swapping places with cluster sister CCM+E AC WASH, which was down this time around.
Over the last 14 surveys, the only entity able to keep WIHT from being #1 18-49 was SANTA and he’s noticeably absent this time of year. WHUR bounced back from a down book to remain at #2 while WKYS ended a six-book decline and moved up two notches to #3. WASH was down sufficiently to drop a spot to #4 where it was tied with WTOP, which moved up a spot. WPGC ended its four-book surge and fell back three paces to #7.
PHILADELPHIA: More, More, More
When we last saw our intrepid adventurers, WEAZ-FM RADIO AC WBEB (MORE FM) had actually experienced the horror of not being the #1 station in town. Fortunately – for them – that tragedy was short-lived as it rebounded (8.3-8.6) to move back into its more familiar position. CBS RADIO Classic Hits WOGL moved up a spot to #2 with its best showing since NOVEMBER (5.9-6.3) but was a distant #2. Last month’s market leader – CBS RADIO News KYW-A – found that more normal weather patterns were not conducive to ratings dominance as the station slipped two spots to #3 (8.4-6.0). Meanwhile, BEASLEY Country WXTU had its best book since MAY to walk up two places to #4 (4.9-5.7). For the third straight book, GREATER MEDIA Active Rock WMMR moved back one spot in the standings – now at #5 – as it lost just a bit of share (5.8-5.5).
After a two-month hiatus, WBEB returned to the #1 slot 25-54. This was actually the first time in exactly a year that the station was #1 in the demo – without the influence and aid of elfin magic, that is. WMMR’s two-book run at the top came to an end as the station took a bit of a ratings hit to land at #2 while WXTU had its best number in over a year to move up a spot to #3. WOGL was also celebrating its best number since JULY as it clawed its way out of a tie at #7 to land at #4. GREATER MEDIA Classic Rock WMGK was up slightly as it remained at #5 while cluster brother GREATER MEDIA Adult Hits WBEN (BEN FM) left the cozy confines of being tied at #5 and slipped to #7. In between those two was CCM+E Alternative WRFF (RADIO 104.5), which dropped three places to #6.
There was quite literally a new sheriff in town 18-34 as WXTU scored a monster number and galloped to #1 all the way from #5. It just edged out WBEB, which was up slightly and did its own galloping as it moved up two spots from #4. CCM+E Urban WUSL (POWER) was off a bit but maintained a firm grip on the #3 position. Last month’s market leader – WRFF – landed its lowest number of the year and fell all the way to #4 where it was tied with WMMR, which did its own tumbling from #2.
For eight straight surveys two stations have moved back and forth between the top two spots 18-49. The flip flopped again as WBEB took the lead with a slight increase while WMMR took a step back with a slight decrease. WXTU may be poised to make this a three-horse race. Though the station remained at #3, it had its best book in over a year and is well within striking distance of the market leaders. WUSL had its highest number since JULY to move up a spot to #4. WRFF shed some share as it dropped from #4 into a tie at #5 with cluster mate CCM+E Top 40/M WIOQ (Q102), which was up enough to move up from a tie at #7.
ATLANTA: Four Out Of Five Cox Stations Agree
It was quite the book for the COX RADIO cluster as they held four of the five top spots in the market. COX RADIO Talk WSB-A led the way for the second straight book despite being down slightly (7.6-7.3). COX RADIO Urban AC WALR (KISS) remained a solid #2 as it ended a two-book slide (6.8-7.2). COX RADIO AC WSB-F (B98.5) was up for the second straight book (6.5-6.7) and inched up a spot to #3. The party crasher was CBS RADIO Urban AC WVEE (V-103), which slipped a spot to #4 (6.7-6.3). Finally, we had COX RADIO Classic Hits WSRV (THE RIVER), remaining at #5 despite being down for the second month in a row (5.8-5.6).
One thing that seems to remain fairly predictable is the fact that WVEE reigns supreme 25-54. The station is still #1, and though it has been down for the last two books, it retained a healthy lead over #2 WSRV – which was off slightly this month. WSB-F was up nicely to move up a rank to #3, which displaced RADIO ONE Urban AC WAMJ (MAJIC), which had its lowest total since SEPTEMBER as it landed at #4. CCM+E Country WUBL (THE BULL) was not bs-ing anyone as it landed its best number in over a year to rise two spots to #5. This caused CUMULUS Top 40/M WWWQ (Q100) to fall into a tie at #6 with WSB-A.
For the first time since AUGUST, WVEE was atop the 18-34 charts, wresting control away from RADIO ONE Urban WHTA (HOT), which fell to #2 with its lowest total since, well, AUGUST. Funny how that worked out. WWWQ moved up two places to #3 with its best book since NOVEMBER while CCM+E Top 40/M WWPW (POWER) was off slightly to remain at #4. CCM+E Alternative WRDA (RADIO 105.7) had its best book since – yes – AUGUST to take three giant steps forward to #5. WSB-F had its lowest total since – well, lookee here – AUGUST – to drop three spots to a tie at #6.
Even though it posted its lowest number in over a year, WVEE remained in its customary position of #1 18-49, maintaining a solid lead on WSB-F, which had a very good book and moved forward two places to #2. WAMJ was down for the second book in a row and slipped to #3 while WWWQ matched that pattern in dropping to #4. WHTA had its lowest number since AUGUST but still moved up a spot to #5, partly because WSRV lost some share and fell two spots to #6.
BOSTON: Pucker Up
This marks the third book in a row that CCM+E Top 40/M WXKS (KISS 108) was #1 (7.6-7.2), which means it has been #1 for the entire year. OK, it has only been three months but isn’t it about the spin? GREATER MEDIA AC WMJX (MAGIC) remained at #2 (6.8-6.5) – yes, it has been there all year, too – while CBS RADIO News WBZ-A reported in with its best book since APRIL (6.0-6.4) to inch up a rank to #3. This caused GREATER MEDIA Country WKLB to take a step back to #4 even though it was up a bit (6.1-6.3). Cluster brother GREATER MEDIA Classic Hits WROR remained at #5 even though it landed its highest share since MAY (5.6-5.8). There are a small handful of markets that see NPR-affiliated stations in the top five and it appears that BOSTON UNIVERSITY N/T WBUR is trying to expand that list. The station had its best book in over a year (4.3-4.7) to move up from #9 into a tie at #6 with CBS RADIO Sports WBZ-F (THE SPORTS HUB), which did a double hop from #8 (4.5-4.7).
The status quo was preserved 25-54 even though the top two stations were down this survey. WXKS maintained its solid share-and-a-half lead over WMJX. WKLB bounced back from a down book and moved up one rung to #3 while WBZ-F parlayed a small share increase into a two-spot jump to #4. Cluster sister CBS RADIO Hot AC WBMX (MIX) was not so fortunate as it shed enough share to drop two spots to #5. That was a better fate than what befell GREATER MEDIA Alternative WBOS (RADIO 92.9), which had its lowest share since DECEMBER and dropped three slots to #7.
We just had a flashback. For what seemed like an eternity, WXKS and fellow cluster dude CCM+E Top 40/R WJMN (JAM’N) dominated 18-34. The race was always for third place. Then things changed and for the last five surveys, WXKS was not #1. That changed this survey as the station moved back to the top even though it had a down book. WKLB had its best book since JULY to take over the #2 position. Meanwhile, WJMN scored its lowest share since SEPTEMBER to fall two spots to #3. It still had a comfortable lead over #4 GREATER MEDIA Rhythmic AC WBQT (HOT), which had its highest share since AUGUST. WBZ-F was up slightly, which allowed it to sneak into the top five while WBOS had its lowest total since DECEMBER to drop two places to #7.
WXKS completed the demo sweep by winning 18-49 for the third book in a row. WKLB’s best book since AUGUST allowed the station to charge up three spots to #2. WBZ-F took one small step back to #3 with its lowest score since SEPTEMBER while WMJX dropped back one to #4. WBOS was down for the second book in a row but managed to move forward two squares to #5. WJMN had its lowest share since AUGUST and dropped four spots to #7.
Thus concludes round two of our ratings analysis. As always, feel free to rattle our cages via the platforms listed below.
DETROIT: A Mix, Up
This one kind of came out of left field. While CCM+E Urban AC WMXD (MIX) is always in the, well, mix of the top performers, what it accomplished this time certainly got some notice. Not only did the station move from #3 to #1, it laid down its biggest number in over a year (6.4-8.3). Gaining almost two full shares in one book is a rare accomplishment. CBS RADIO News WWJ-A was off for the second straight book (7.9-7.2) to take one step back to #2 while cluster mate CBS RADIO Classic Hits WOMC also stumbled a bit (7.6-6.8) in its move back one spot to #3. CUMULUS Talk WJR-A made quite a move – jumping two spots to #4 despite a flat performance (5.4-5.4). CCM+E Top 40/M WKQI (CHANNEL 955) had its highest total in over a year (4.8-5.2) to return to the top five for the first time in over a year. Funny how those things often work out together. Cluster sister CCM+E AC WNIC’s post-HOLIDAY surge came to a halt (6.1-5.1) and the station fell two spots to #6. It was tied with CBS RADIO Country WYCD, which fell from #5 with its fifth straight down book (5.5-5.1). Could this be a by-product of the appearance of CUMULUS Country WDRQ (NASH FM)? That’s difficult to say as NASH remained at #18 with a slight down trend (2.3-2.2).
WMXD also experienced a rather large share increase 25-54 but all that did was strengthen the station’s hold on the market. It was #1 for the third book in a row. Two stations came charging out of the pack to share some time at #2. WOMC moved up from #5 with its best showing in over a year while WKQI made the move from #6 with its best book in over a year. All this upward mobility did have an effect on the fortunes of several stations. WWJ-A was off a bit as it dropped a spot to #4 while WYCD had its smallest number in over a year and fell three stories to #5. WNIC fared a bit worse as it dropped from #4 to #10.
There weren’t many surprises 18-34. WKQI reached double digits for the third straight survey and held a commanding lead over CCM+E Urban WJLB, which moved forward one space to #2. WYCD dropped a spot to #3 after posting its lowest number since MAY. GREATER MEDIA Active Rock WRIF was off slightly but maintained its vise-like grip on #4. WMXD did not wow the market in this demo but it was up enough to move from a tie at #6 to #5. This dropped WGPR INC Urban AC WGPR (HOT) out of the top five.
For the first time since MAY, WKQI was #1 18-49 – moving up from the #2 position. Also charging up the chart was WMXD, which rose two positions to #2. WYCD saw its two-book run at #1 come to an end. After posting its lowest score in exactly a year, it fell to #3. WJLB dropped a spot to #4 with its smallest share since DECEMBER. WRIF was off slightly but remained at #5 where it suddenly found itself eye-to-eye with the resurgent WOMC, which was up for the fourth straight book and moved in from #7.
MIAMI-FT. LAUDERDALE-HOLLYWOOD: The Heat Is On
As good as the MIAMI HEAT are, they would love to have a run like COX RADIO Urban AC WHQT (HOT) is on. While the station just posted its lowest number in over a year (8.8-8.2), it still has a sizeable lead over whichever station inhabited the #2 position. This time around that happened to be UNIVISION Spanish Contemporary WAMR (AMOR), which ended a three-book slide (5.6-6.0) to move up from #3. After securing its best book since JULY (5.0-5.8), COX RADIO AC WFEZ (EASY) took the path of least resistance and moved up four places to #3. LINCOLN AC WLYF (LITE) advanced one square to #4 with a slight increase in share (5.2-5.5). COX RADIO Urban WEDR stumbled a bit (5.8-5.1) and was forced to move back three places to #5. CCM+E Top 40/M WHYI (Y100) landed its lowest share since NOVEMBER (5.3-4.9), which forced it to move down three spots to #7.
Oh, look – WHQT also had its lowest 25-54 book in over a year. Do you know what that meant? Its hold on the #1 position shrank to less than a full share – something we have not seen since APRIL. SBS Tropical WXDJ (EL ZOL) had its best book in over a year to move forward one place to #2 while WAMR’s strong showing elevated the station from #5 to #3. The last four books have been a roller coaster ride for WEDR. They were on the down slope this time as the station dropped two spots to #4. WFEZ was definitely on the up slope after posting its best number since JULY. The station rose three spots to #5. WHYI had its lowest number since JULY, which caused the station to drop from #4 to #6.
When it comes to 18-34, the market pretty much just jostles for position behind two stations. For thirteen of the last fourteen surveys, WEDR has been #1. The station did it again even though it failed to hit double digits for only the second time in the last year. The one time WEDR was not #1, BEASLEY Top 40/R WPOW (POWER) took the honors. This time POWER was in its customary #2 position. CCM+E Urban WMIB (THE BEAT) – which did not exist prior to OCTOBER – posted its best number and achieved its highest rank – #3 – of its young life. WHYI remained at #4 with a solid increase while WXDJ dropped two spots to #5 with its lowest share since NOVEMBER.
Even though WEDR lost over a full point of its 18-49 share, the station maintained a comfortable lead over #2 WXDJ – which also experienced some ratings erosion. WHYI remained at #3 with its lowest total since JULY while WPOW moved up a notch to #4 thanks to a slight increase. WAMR had a strong gain as it moved from #6 to #5 while WHQT dropped two spots to #6 with its lowest number in over a year.
SEATTLE-TACOMA: A Two-Fer
This is one of the tightest, most hotly contested markets we see. Small movements in share can lead to large changes in rank. For example, last month three stations were tied at #2. This month, all three were up but they are no longer tied. Returning to the top spot was HUBBARD Top 40/M KQMV (MOVIN’), which had its best book since AUGUST (5.0-5.7). Settling in at #2 was CBS RADIO Classic Rock KZOK, which also had its best number since AUGUST (5.0-5.6). ENTERCOM Active Rock KISW slipped to #3 even though it scored its highest total since NOVEMBER (5.0-5.2). Moving up a spot to #4 was HUBBARD AC KRWM (WARM) (4.9-5.0). Last month’s market leader, UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON N/T KUOW, picked the wrong time to have a down trend as it fell four places to #5 (5.1-4.7) where it was tied with BONNEVILLE Talk KIRO-F, which moved up from #7 despite a down book (4.8-4.7). Finally, CCM+E Top 40/M KBKS (KISS) dropped back two places to #7 after securing its lowest share since OCTOBER (4.9-4.3). And, next month this could all be completely different …
Compared to 6+, 25-54 is a model of consistency. Three stations have separated themselves from the rest of the pack. At least, that has been the pattern for the first three books of the year. KISW was #1 for the second book in a row with its best share since AUGUST. KQMV remained at #2 with its highest score in over a year. KZOK held firm at #3 with its largest number since AUGUST. CRISTA Christian Contemporary KCMS (SPIRIT) ended a two-book slide as it moved forward three places to #4 while KIRO-F moved up a spot to #5 on the strength of its best book in over a year. KBKS dropped from #4 to #7 with its lowest share since OCTOBER.
KISW is on a three-book roll that has seen it pick up more than three shares 18-34. It was #1 for the second month in a row with its biggest share in over a year. KQMV remained at #2 with a solid performance while ENTERCOM Rhythmic AC KHTP (HOT) ended its four-book slide and moved forward one place to #3. Cluster pack mate ENTERCOM Country KKWF (THE WOLF) bounced back from a down book to bound forward two places to #4. CCM+E Top 40/R KUBE ended a four-book surge but remained at #5 where it was tied with KZOK, which launched itself from #12 because it ignited its best book since JULY. KBKS took a hefty ratings hit as it fell four spots to #7.
KISW remained atop the 18-49 leader board with its best number since AUGUST while KQMV was still #2 with its highest share since JUNE. KZOK moved forward two places to #3 on the strength of its strongest showing since JULY. KBKS lost some share on its way down to #4 while KHTP found some share while dropping to #5. KKWF had its best book since DECEMBER but still dropped one spot to #6.
PHOENIX: Another CC Sweep
CLEAR CHANNEL occupied four of the top five positions this survey. Just last month we were marveling at the sudden and dramatic rise of CCM+E Hot AC KMXP (MIX) as the station picked up over three shares in one book. Well, that did not happen again as the station fell back to earth … a little (8.1-6.3). That worked out to be its second-best book in the last year, and kept MIX at #1. CCM+E AC KESZ (99.9 KEZ) continued its post-SANTA slide (5.6-5.4) but remained at #2 just ahead of cluster sister CCM+E Top 40/M KZZP (KISS), which stayed at #3 with a slightly downward tilt to its numbers (5.4-5.3). CBS RADIO Classic Hits KOOL elbowed its way into the conversation with its best showing since NOVEMBER (4.6-5.1). It was tied at #4 with CCM+E Country KNIX, which moved in from a tie at #6 with its highest share in over a year (4.4-5.1). HUBBARD Classic Rock KSLX was up slightly (4.9-5.0) yet fell two positions to #6.
It’s a CINDERELLA story … KMXP remained #1 25-54 despite some share loss. The station is still way ahead of where it was as recently as JANUARY. KZZP was up slightly to hold on at #2 while HUBBARD Active Rock KUPD was down a bit to stand pat at #3. KSLX was #4 for the fourth straight survey and KNIX jumped two places to #5 with its best book since JUNE. KESZ dropped two spots to #7 with its lowest number in over a year.
Since assuming control of 18-34 in JANUARY, KZZP has seen its shares decline each month. What hasn’t changed is the fact that the station has remained at #1 though RIVIERA Top 40/R KKFR (POWER) has moved within shouting distance at #2 after landing its highest share in over a year. This bumped KUPD and KMXP back a square to #3 and #4, respectively, as both stations saw their shares decline ever so slightly. KNIX made its presence known. After posting its best book since JULY, the station remained at #5 – though it did gain a bit of turf on those in the lead. CBS RADIO Top 40/R KZON (LIVE 101.5) dropped a spot to #6 despite an up book.
All sorts of stuff was happening 18-49. KZZP was down slightly yet managed to return to the top spot while KUPD moved up to #2 despite posting its lowest share since OCTOBER. Much of this rise was fueled by KMXP’s demise as the station dropped two places to #3. KNIX had a huge book, which is why it moved from a tie at #8 to #4. KKFR also rose from a tie at #8 and walked into a three-way tie at #5. While KKFR had its best book in over a year, KZON slipped back from #4 with a slight down trend. Former TRUMPER, now RIVIERA Hot AC KMVA (HOT) completed the trilogy with its best number in over a year – it moved in from a tie at #6. KESZ was down for the third straight survey and went from #5 to #8. That gives RIVIERA two stations in the Top 5 in 18-49 for the first time in their history.
MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL: Can You Say Juggernaut?
Ever since SANTA made the short trip back to the NORTH POLE, CCM+E Top 40/M KDWB has been on a tear. Well, truth be told – even when the big guy was in town, the station was pretty strong. However, it did just post its best book since JANUARY (9.1-9.4) to strengthen its strangle hold on the market. HUBBARD Hot AC KSTP (KS 95) was perfectly flat (7.5-7.5) and remained at #2. CUMULUS Classic Rock KQRS moved up two spots to #3 with its highest share since NOVEMBER (6.3-7.4). CCM+E Classic Hits KQQL (KOOL 108) had its best non-reindeer-infested share since JULY (6.6-6.7) to remain at #4. CBS RADIO Adult Hits KZJK (JACK FM) moved up into a tie with KQQL because it had its highest share since JUNE (6.3-6.7). UNIVERSITY OF NORTHWESTERN-ST. PAUL Christian Contemporary
KTIS saw its five-book surge grind to a halt (7.4-6.4) as it slid three spots to #6.The top five positions 25-54 remained completely unaltered from the previous survey. KDWB was #1 with its second straight double-digit share book. KSTP was down a bit but remained at #2 while KQRS inched closer at #3 with its best showing since NOVEMBER. KZJK may have stayed motionless at #4 but it did post its best number in over a year. Finally, CUMULUS Active Rock KXXR (93X) held firm at #5 with a slight increase.
That loud noise you just heard was the sound of jaws dropping while looking at KDWB’s enormous 18-34 share. It’s the biggest in over a year and if it keeps developing like this, it could actually be in the demo in a few months. KXXR had its lowest share since JULY but held on at #2 while KSTP moved up to #3 with its best book since OCTOBER. CBS RADIO Country KMNB (BUZ’N) dropped back to #4 with a down book. KZJK scored its best number since AUGUST to move up a spot to #5, which dropped CCM+E Country KEEY (K102) back to #6. The station is on a two-book ratings slide in this demo.
The battle is always for second place 18-49 because KDWB consistently hits double-digit shares and no one else does. It’s simple math, really. KZJK is the latest pretender to the throne as it moved up from a tie at #5 with easily its highest score in over a year. KSTP moved back one place to #3 with a slight loss of share while KXXR was flat and dropped to #4. KQRS scored its best book since NOVEMBER to move from #7 to #5 while KMNB was off slightly as it fell two spots to #6. KTIS ended a five-book surge and slid from a tie at #5 to #7.
This concludes this test of the emergency ratings network. If this had been an actual … wait, the preceding analysis was real. This was no test.
